Paul Stafford speaks at STEP Manchester

15th Nov 2018

Paul Stafford, Chancery counsel at Ten Old Square, recently gave an insightful tax talk at STEP Manchester with delegates commenting  it was “easy to engage with” the topic and the briefing gave them “plenty to think about”.

Paul spoke on ‘Facilitating tax evasion and enabling tax avoidance: corporate criminal offences and civil penalties’ , addressing a topical legal issue yet to raise its head above the parapet.

Paul has extensive advisory, drafting and litigation experience. His contentious practice has focussed on commercial and property disputes mostly in the higher courts, where he has represented HMRC, and includes experience of tax fraud and professional negligence in cases involving solicitors and accountants.

For ten years Paul sat as a member and sometimes chairman of the Disciplinary and Appeals Committees of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He has appeared before the Solicitors Regulatory Authority and taken cases on appeal from the SRA and other Law Society regulatory decisions to the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
