On 29 July 2025, the High Court handed down judgment in George v The Corporation of the Hall of Arts and Sciences [2025] EWHC 1979 (Ch). Simon Taube KC and James Kirby acted for the defendant (usually known as the Royal Albert Hall) in successfully opposing an application for summary judgment. The application was brought by the claimants, who are entitled to seats at the Hall.
The claimants say that the Hall has exceeded its powers to exclude them from their seats for certain events and seek a declaration, an injunction and damages. The Hall says (among other things) that it has acted with the claimants’ consent and that the issue is likely to fall away if a private bill currently before Parliament is enacted. Sir Anthony Mann (sitting as a High Court Judge) dismissed the claimants’ application for summary judgment. The claim is now expected to proceed to trial.
