Boris Young started pupillage at Ten Old Square in October 2025. He is now in the second six (practising period) of his pupillage. He is currently supervised by Richard Dew. Work he has assisted with during pupillage includes:

While supervised by James MacDougald:

  • Writing opinions on inheritance tax issues, including qualifying interests in possession, exemption for property given to charity and analysis of the tax effect of a disclaimed gift.
  • Advice on an application under the Variation of Trusts Act 1958.
  • Assisted on settling particulars of claim for a proprietary estoppel claim.

While supervised by Jeremy Callman:

  • A GP Partnership dispute, involving issues around whether the practice buildings were partnership property, and a claim for the rental profits of those buildings. Boris assisted with drafting particulars of claim and on costs budgeting issues before the CCMC.
  • Drafting a defence to a commercial partnership claim, involving limitation and delay.
  • A company dispute, including drafting an unfair prejudice petition and applying for interim relief.

Boris has also observed hearings including HMRC v The Boston Consulting Group [2026] UKUT 00025, and a three-day TOLATA trial in the County Court.

Before pupillage, Boris worked as a solicitor’s agent and has experience of possession claims in the County Court.
