Helen Bunce is a self-employed, independent barrister whose practice is regulated by the Bar Standards Board [Bar Council Ref 76535]. Helen joined Chambers as a tenant in October 2025, following the successful completion of her pupillage. During her pupillage Helen worked on cases across chambers’ core areas of practice and was supervised by Richard Dew, Georgia Bedworth, James MacDougald and Jeremy Callman.

Helen accepts instructions in all Chambers’ main practice areas, including contentious and non-contentious Private Client, Court of Protection, Offshore, Partnerships and LLPs, Commercial Chancery, Property and Tax. She enjoys both led and unled work.

Expertise

Helen acts and advises on all aspects of trusts and estate disputes including:

  • Disputes over the construction of wills, codicils and trust instruments.
  • Disputes over wills and probate claims.
  • Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 claims.
  • Applications to remove executors and trustees.
  • Trustees’ and executors’ duties and liabilities.
  • Matters relating to charitable trusts, including construction and the scope of charitable trustee powers.

Alongside a practice in contentious trust and estates, Helen also advises on non-contentious matters including:

  • Issues concerning the construction, interpretation and validity of wills and trusts.
  • The rectification of wills and other non-contentious applications.
  • Non-contentious drafting, including wills, trust deeds, deeds of appointment and deeds of retirement.
  • The administration of trusts and estates.
  • Trusts for charitable purposes.

Helen advises on a range of tax issues in relation to trusts and wills, encompassing QIIPs, GWR, POAT, and conditional exemption.

Helen is well placed to act in Court of Protection matters, inclusive of:

  • Gifting applications.
  • Statutory will applications.
  • The appointment of deputies.
  • The removal of deputies and attorneys.

Helen advises and acts in several matters relating to partnerships and LLPs across diverse professions and industries including the medical and legal professions, and the agricultural industry. Her experience includes:

  • The construction and interpretation of partnership and LLP agreements.
  • The expulsion or retirement of partners.
  • Restrictive covenants.
  • Team moves.
  • The application of partnership and LLP law in relation to trusts and estates.

Helen acts and advises on property disputes, covering:

  • Possession claims of both residential and commercial property.
  • Claims concerning the existence of leases and/or licences.
  • Landlord & Tenant disputes.
  • Claims concerning occupation and trusts of land.
  • Proprietary estoppel claims.
  • Claims concerning the existence of, or interpretation of, easements and covenants.

Helen takes instructions on all kinds commercial and contractual disputes, including:

  • Breach of contract.
  • Unjust enrichment.
  • Obtaining injunctions, whether interim, freezing, or proprietary.
  • Company disputes encompassing unfair prejudice, breach of directors’ duties, shareholder disputes and company insolvency.
